Numbers 6

22 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying,

On this wise ye shall BLESS the children of Israel, saying unto them,

24 The LORD BLESS thee, and keep thee:

25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

27 And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

In the passage above, you find God, the creator of the heavens and the earth, teaching Moses the principle of the blessing.  The blessing here, is not talking about houses, cars, children, or wealth.  It is what we call ‘the benediction”.   It is the verbal pronouncement upon a person to empower that person to succeed in a venture or to get wealth.  Wealth here also means an all-round blessing.

Genesis 24

1 ¶ And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age:

And the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

God is here asking Moses to ask Aaron to make some seven specific pronouncements upon the children of Israel, after they had gathered to worship Him.  He said that by doing this Aaron would have marked the Israelites for His blessing.

The blessing differs in many respects from prayers.  Prayers entreat God to do something for or to someone.  The blessing is acting on God’s behalf to empower someone.  It is not a prayer.  Read this blessing which Isaac pronounced upon Jacob.

Genesis 27

27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:

28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s son’s bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

Listen to what Isaac said to Jacob concerning the blessing he pronounced above.

Genesis 27

37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

By the blessing “be lord over your brethren”, Isaac said he had made Jacob their master or lord.  Not that he had prayed for God to make him lord over them.  It is a decree.

The question is, Could God not bless the Israelites without Aaron or any other person blessing them?  The answer is, No, God could not have done so.  God has given the earth to man to rule over. He cannot come to do anything without being invited.

Psalm 115

16 The heaven, even the heavens,

Are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Even when God wants to come into this earth to save someone, He has to move someone to pray and invite Him.  If all the people He moves to pray refuse to pray, He cannot come.

Ezekiel 22

29 The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

30 And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

31 Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.

The passage above tells you that it was not God’s desire to punish this sin.  If someone had prayed to heaven on behalf of the earth something could have changed.  Remember this:  Nothing leaves heaven until man’s prayer leaves the earth.

So God could not bless the Israelites until Aaron has so said, and until someone here on earth (including the one who wants God’s blessing) has prayed God’s blessing cannot leave heaven.

Relational Authority and the Blessing

One thing is certain in Scripture: your brother cannot bless you, neither can your friend.  They can only pray for you. We have said already that the blessing differs in many respects from prayers.  Prayers entreat God to do something for or to someone.  The blessing is acting on God’s behalf to empower someone.  It is not a prayer.

Who then can bless?  It is the person who has relational authority over you.  The person must be a father-figure, or a master.  He must be someone you submit to. He it is who can speak into your life. And that is why you should be under someone’s authority.  Find a father, a master somewhere who can speak into your life.

  • A Father and/or a Mother

One’s father has authority to bless.  How pleasant it is to see a father shower blessing upon his son or daughter.  Read Genesis Chapters 48, and 49.  That is why you should seek your father’s blessing while he is still alive.  It could reduce your sweet and labour.  He can even lift you from poverty to riches and wealth by the words of his mouth coming from a heart of overflowing favour towards you.

One important note of warning is this:  God never said honour your father and your mother if they take care of you.  No, He did not say so.  They are vehicles by which you came to this world. That is the major reason they deserve our honour.  Whoever and whatever you are is as a result of the fact that they brought you into this world.  They can only care.  It is God who preserves a man.

Where you have only your mother alive, honour her.  Her blessing will sustain you.

The statement that whoever will give you a dress let sus see what he is wearing himself does not hold true in the matter of blessing.  Peter did not have money but he had the name of Jesus.  Your father or mother may not be rich but they can make you rich by the words of theirt mouth.

A Master

By accepting one as a master or as a lord, you are submitting to that person’s authority.  And to anyone you submit, that person can empower you verbally.  Aaron was three years older than Moses.  Hear how to addressed his younger brother Moses.

Exodus 7

7 And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old,

when they spake unto Pharaoh.

But Aaron addressed Moses as his lord.  This is because Moses had to bless him for him to succeed in ministry, especially before entering into the holy of holies to minister once in a year.

Exodus 32

21 ¶ And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee,

that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?

22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot:

thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.

In Malachi Chaptger One, God presented the fact that unless you see Him as Father or as Master he can not help you.  Even as a Father there must be honour and as Master there must be fear.  In other words, fathers are to be honoured and masters are to be feared.

Malachi 1

6 ¶ A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master:

if then I be a father, where is mine honour?

and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you,

That is why we call our Pastors “daddy”, or “father in the Lord”.  That is not determined by age or status.  If you do not honour him he cannot bless you.  Whatever blessing he pronounces upon you turns into a prayer, because you do not submit to him.

The Voice of Relational Authority is Prophetic

When Jacob blessed or cursed his children that is what they got.  Whatever he said came to pass, even if any of them tried to alter it.  When Jacob blessed Ephraim and Manasseh, whatever he said happened in their lives.  Is that not prophetic?

I have a way of assessing people who approach me for prayers.  There is nothing wrong with taking me as your brother or as your friend.  The harm is that the father or master’s word is prophetic.  He can tell you that what you call a problem is not a problem and that, my dear reader, is a blessing just released upon you.  He just took you out of trouble.  Her just got you out of trouble.  But your pastor as a friend or as a brother cannot utter that word prophetically.

A young man had a problem at the place of work.  He closed from work and as he was about to leave the premises they called him and showed him the equipment he used for work.  It was broken somewhere.  He insisted that he was not the one who spoilt it.  It came out later that what he said was true.  But he did not detect it before he used it, for technically he was liable.  All cries that the authorities ask the person who worked before him whether he was the one, they refused.  This young man stood to lose over 5,000 dollars which would be paid to him as discharge bonus in about 9 months from then, after having worked for over four years with that company.  He was troubled when he came to me.  I asked him to call the boss again, to try to persuade him.  The man shouted on him and cut off the phone communication.  And that stirred the anointing of God upon my life.  I said, “Go home, nothing will happen.  They can’t do anything to you.  Just go.”  He went.  The third day he received a text to come and face the committee set up as a disciplinary committee by the management of the company.  He went.  They started assembling for the meeting when a young man entered and told them they were backing the wrong tree.  He had seen someone on that equipment on that fateful day coming from an assignment with the said fault. They dispersed.  Till today no one communicated anything to him.  I told him to leave the place after waiting for over two hours without anyone contacting him.  He went to work the next day and no one said anything.  He got his discharge bonus at the due time.

This man is not young enough to be my son.  At best, he would be a younger brother, but he does not act as so.  He submits to me.  So I can speak into his life.

These are some of the blessings you lose when you have no one who can speak into your life.
